The application of innovative food technologies often fails due to production-related or technical obstacles but also due to high investment costs. The EU project i³-food developed concepts for fast industrial implementation for three technologies. Fraunhofer ISI researched the innovation environment.

Trade visitors can now use "Spotlight – Premieres and Innovations at Fruit Logistica 2019" to prepare for the leading fair for the global fresh produce trade. Fruit Logistica takes place from 6 to 8 February 2019 in Berlin. More than half of the 83 reports published in "Spotlight" focus on world premieres.

When the international organic sector gathers for the world's leading trade fair for organic food for four days from 13 - 16 February 2019, the heart of this industry will once again be beating in Nuremberg. More than 2,900 exhibitors are expected to take part in this 30th round of Biofach.

This year, Asian consumers are projected to demand more fresh and healthy options, and Asia’s premier trade show and information hub for the global fresh fruit and vegetable business is back again to help the industry deliver. Asia Fruit Logistica returns to Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo Center on 4-6 September 2019.

Shoulder of meat from Baden, ahle sausage from Hesse or Freiberg eierschecke cake: Regional specialities go down a treat with consumers and can be sampled in all their diversity at the International Green Week Berlin 2019. From 18 to 27 January some 500 exhibitors will be presenting their own regional delicacies.

The trade fair ProWein, which next will be held on 17-19 March, 2019 in Düsseldorf, has grown tremendously over its 25-year history. Its first iteration was held in 1994 under the name ProVins, picking up on a small presentation of French wine from a year earlier.

More than 40,000 trade visitors (2016: 37,923) – 18,000 of them international – travelled to Nuremberg to attend BrauBeviale, this year’s most important capital goods exhibition for the beverage industry. 1,094 exhibitors – 53 per cent of them international – presented their products and solutions.

A new process to turn spent brewery grains into a valuable product that can grow beer yeast has been invented by scientists from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore). In beer making, yeast is the key ingredient for fermentation, a process where sugars from the grains are converted into alcohol.

The Internorga Future Award, to be held for the 9th time in 2019, will be presented in three categories at Internorga. The competition is now open for entries. Up to the deadline 15 January 2019, entries can be submitted both directly and in the form of nominations at the Internorga website.

Before ProWein, the leading trade fair for the international wine and spirits industry, celebrates its 25th anniversary this coming year, ProWine China will also be in for a small jubilee from 13 to 15 November 2018: five years ago, the first ProWine China took place in Shanghai.
