Mate – typical product of Paraguay
The capital of Paraguay is Asunción. It is one of the oldest cities in South America. The continent was discovered by Spanish conquistadors. They used Asunción as a base from which to establish further settlements, giving rise to its moniker, “the Mother of Cities”.

The Paraguayan Mate Producers Association takes part in Anuga for the third time. It represents seven of the country’s largest brands. Over the past few years, Germany has developed into one of the most important markets for Paraguayan Mate tea. It is exported to countries such as Germany, Belgium, France and the Middle East. The natural product is considered natural and of high quality.

Therefore the Mate tea enjoys also in further countries, like e.g. Turkey or also the United Arab Emirates a large following shank. Paraguay has set itself the goal of becoming the world’s leading exporter of stevia by 2030. It plans to increase the area under cultivation to 50,000 hectares. In 2018, Paraguay’s wheat exports increased to 233,000 tonnes, compared with 26,000 tonnes in 2017. It is the world’s third-largest soya bean exporter.
