Exhibition professionals around the world came out in record numbers for the third Global Exhibitions Day (GED) in June. Not only did this highlight the industry’s role as a driver of economic growth, but also established GED 2018 as the biggest day of advocacy for the exhibition world so far, according to data from UFI.

The 2018 UFI Global Congress - the most international annual gathering in the exhibition industry, will cover the theme "The Dynamics of Transition – Our Industry’s Complex Future". The event will take place from 31 October to 3 November 2018 in St. Petersburg (Russia) and will be hosted by Expoforum Russia.

EMECA, the European Major Exhibition Center Association, and UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, have agreed to extend the European Exhibition Industry Alliance (EEIA), which aims to represent the interests of the exhibition industry to EU stakeholders in Brussels.

Koelnmesse is further expanding its presence on the Latin American market: With the establishment of the subsidiary Koelnmesse SAS in Colombia with headquarters in Bogotá, Koelnmesse is the first international trade fair organiser to be represented in this key Latin American trade fair market with its own subsidiary.

Event organiser UBM announced that its Latin America businesses have acquired ExpoMed (Mexico) from LIVEMED and Live Healthcare (Brazil) from founders Dr. Vitor Assentuno and Dr. Raphael Gordilho. Through these acquisitions, UBM continues to grow its portfolio of healthcare events in Latin America.

Global Exhibitions Day (GED) is a celebration of the exhibition industry as a whole and everyone who works in it – and it’s just a few days away. Always held on the first Wednesday in June, this year’s celebrations are scheduled for 6 June, UFI - The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, announces.

UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has named Informa Brazil as winner of the 2018 UFI Marketing Award. The UFI Marketing Award has been recognising exemplary marketing initiatives since 2001. The theme of this year’s award was innovative formats and how they help to make successful events.

Easyfairs Netherlands has announced that it is taking over the Building Holland trade fair from Duurzaam Gebouwd with immediate effect. Building Holland has become the most important event for innovation in the construction and property industries in the Netherlands in recent years and its acquisition reinforces Easyfairs’ portfolio in this sector.

UBM Asia Limited has agreed to acquire the Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong ("RBHK"), Natural & Organic Products Asia ("NOPA"), and Retail Asia Expo ("RAE") events from the Hong Kong subsidiary of US based organiser Diversified Communications. This move further strengthens the company's food and hospitality portfolio.

The UFI Board of Directors has elected Mary Larkin as President of UFI for 2020. The decision was made at the board meeting during the UFI European Conference in Verona (Italy) and becomes effective at the conclusion of the 85th UFI Global Congress, which runs from 31 October to 3 November 2018 in St. Petersburg.
