Smart City

Innovative lighting concepts can make a decisive contribution to safety in both urban and rural areas. After all, illuminated streets and squares ensure that pedestrians or cyclists have good visibility and - just as important - are seen by others. Of course, road traffic also requires illumination that is adapted to the local situation and the respective traffic volume in order to enable drivers to arrive safely after dark.

Uncertainties and records in the machine tools market

Marketplaces like AMB 2022 always act as a barometer of industry sentiment and this is because technical details and commercial topics, such as faltering supply chains and delivery deadlines, will be discussed at the event in Stuttgart on 13–17 September 2022. The German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) provides a preliminary look at the market conditions and atmosphere.

Inline Element analysis

Defects often occur in the production of electrode foils for lithium-ion batteries due to nonhomogeneous coatings. Fraunhofer IPM and Fraunhofer ISIT, together with partners from the fields of industry and research, have developed an optical inline measurement system that determines the material composition of electrode foils quantitatively and with depth resolution – directly in the production line. The goal here is to manufacture electrodes for Li-ion batteries more cost-effectively and with a higher level of quality.

ACHEMA 2022 addresses the industry’s key issues digitalisation and sustainability

In addition to the transformation towards a climate-neutral chemical industry and the perennial topic of digitalisation, the current global political situation also poses massive challenges for the process industry. Which technologies can be used to achieve defossilisation? How to secure and enhance regional and global supply chain networks? And what hurdles must be overcome in the digitalisation of the industry? ACHEMA 2022 offers answers and solutions to these and many more questions.

Cognitive T-slot sensor concept

Forming presses are widely used as key elements of industrial production processes. From automotive technology to refrigerators, almost every product we encounter contains formed parts. The purchasing costs of these machines can reach double-digit millions, and it takes a great deal of time to set up and adjust precisely as needed. Given such a high level of investment, buyers expect machinery of this kind to keep running efficiently for a long time without any loss in quality. At the Hannover Messe, the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Internet Technologies CCIT will demonstrate how cognitive transformation of industrial processes can improve the efficiency of forming machines (Hall 5, Booth A06). The technology that serves as the basis for the exhibit is smartNOTCH – a cognitive T-slot.
