The events of long-standing partners also contribute towards this: The German Dental Association (BZÄK) is once again offering dentists comprehensive consulting and information, the Association of German Dental Technicians (VDZI) is distinguishing aspiring young talents from the dental technology trade for the 16th time and the Federal Association for Dental Alumni in Germany (BdZA) is also represented this year again in the form of the Generation Lounge.
The "Speakers Corner" has been established for many years: From 21 to 24 March lectures by international experts offer well-founded knowledge and the basis for expert discussions. New treatment methods play just as much a role as the theme practice organisation. All legal aspects of everyday practice life are addressed. Many lectures deal with the digitalisation of the industry: 3D print, Cloud computing, dental photography, CAD/CAM applications and networked collaboration are some of the keywords that are particularly moving the industry in 2017. The event is being held for the first time on a spacious surface in the lit-flood Passage between Halls 4 and 5.
IDS – the beginning of a new career?
The IDS Career Day will be held for the second time on 25 March, also in the passage between Halls 4 and 5. Here, companies will be presenting their offerings in the section of professional training, further development and career promotion in the scope of lectures and individual consulting. This enables university graduates, trainees from the fields of dentistry and dental technology as well as pupils and school leavers, who want to find out about attractive training and career opportunities in the dental sector, to gain a first impression of the various spheres of activity of the participating companies. In addition, the "Career Day" offers fully-trained persons or career changers information about further training options and career opportunities in the dental sector.
Dentists and their topics
The German Dental Association (BZÄK), together with its partner organisations, will offer information and discussion rounds on various different topics relevant to dentists at their stand. Moreover, the BZÄK will once more organize the "Aid organisations" coordinating conference at IDS, which is taking place on 24 March 2017 and which aims to allow representatives of dental aid organisations to share their experiences and network.
The 16th Gysi Prize
The coveted gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates will be awarded to the prize winners of the 16th Gysi Prize competition in a festive awards ceremony on March 23. The renowned young talents competition organised by the Association of German Dental Technicians (VDZI) honours trainees in the dental technician trade. The winning entries from the three groups will be on display for the duration of the fair at the passageway between Halls 10 and 11. Furthermore, the VDZI is presenting information on the latest developments for dental technicians at its exhibition stand in Hall 11.2, Aisle S, Stand 10/12.
Generation Lounge
The Federal Association for Dental Alumni in Germany (BdZA) is represented at the IDS again with its Generation Lounge in Passage 4/5. Here, primarily themes such as career planning, practice change-overs and the networking between experienced colleagues and young graduates.
Exchanging experiences beyond the exhibition halls
The so-called "Know-how Tours" are also taking place again in 2017: To round off the second and third day of the fair, a small group of interested people will view modern Cologne dentist surgeries in the scope of exclusive tours and thus receive the opportunity for a professional exchange with famous colleagues.

IDS 2021: VDDI and Koelnmesse postpone the International Dental Show from March until autumn 2021
With a view to the unchanged challenges the Corona pandemic is raising in Germany and the anticipated continuation of the extensive restriction of personal contacts by the Government, States and municipalities at the beginning of the new year, the VDDI board, the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der DentalIndustrie mbH (GFDI) (the commercial enterprise of the VDDI) and Koelnmesse have decided to postpone IDS - the International Dental Show. The trade fair that was originally planned to take place from 10 to 13 March, will now be held from 22 to 25 September 2021. The organisers are taking this step in reaction to the currently ongoing Corona policy, which may be extended in Germany into the new year. By postponing the 39th edition of IDS to the September, the organisers are hoping that due to the then anticipated, improved health situation and relaxation of the travel restrictions more international partners and customers will travel to Cologne. 39th IDS defying the Corona crisis and treading new paths in 2021
The uncertainty caused by the ongoing Corona crisis is also noticeable within the dental industry. Over the past months, together with Koelnmesse, the partners of the 39th edition, IDS 2021, the GFDI mbH, a commercial company of the VDDI, the association and its bodies have intensely occupied themselves with the safety criteria, which makes the physical presence of an international trade fair like IDS possible.
