The aim of a new 5G prototype R&D lab is to identify future opportunities for 5G technology in the trade fair and tourism sector, the Spain-based IMDEA Networks Institute reports. It is a research hub set to develop solutions, features, and new services using 5G technology to be displayed at FITUR 2018.

Messe Frankfurt - the world's largest trade fair, congress and event organiser with its own exhibition grounds - celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its new Hall 12 together with construction workers and trade fair employees. The new hall will be inaugurated in time for Automechanika 2018.

The jury of the 21st International Fair Poster Competition has announced the 2017 winner of this prestigious, one-of-a-kind design competition. A series of posters presented by Bologna Fiere (Italy) and designed by photographer Olivero Toscani Studio, was unanimously chosen as the Grand Award winner 2017.

Hosted by the Johannesburg Expo Centre, the 84th Global Congress, UFI's flagship event, will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in the heart of the business district, from the 1-4 November 2017. An expanded congress programme will run from Wednesday through Friday - with a special focus on doing business in Africa on Friday afternoon.

Exhibitor and visitor figures for 2,590 exhibitions in Europe are contained in the brochure entitled "Euro Fair Statistics 2016" now published by UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The brochure presents data provided by 14 organisations operating in 25 countries, including Germany's FKM - Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics.

Dr. Andreas Winckler (52) has been appointed to the Extended Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt as Chief of Information Technology effective 1 October 2017. This means that he will be taking over at the helm of the Information Management division, previously the responsibility of Dr. Frank Biendara, who left Messe Frankfurt at his own request on 30 September to pursue new professional challenges.

Strategic step forward: Messe München has taken over Lab Africa, a laboratory and analytics trade fair in South Africa, to integrate it in the analytica trade fair network. In the middle of 2019, the first Lab Africa under the umbrella of Messe München will take place in Johannesburg.

Deutsche Messe's Supervisory Board granted approval for the decentralization of the company's "Marketing & PR" division. Therefore, effective immediately, all marketing and PR activities are being decentralized to three MarCom (marketing communications) departments.

After a construction period of a little over a year, the first section of the exhibition centre Car Park "Zoobrücke" is opening in time for the dmexco, the global business fair for digital marketing. The first 2,000 parking spaces have been available to trade fair visitors since 13 September.

Messe Frankfurt is boosting its technology fair portfolio with the addition of RosMould, the international trade fair for mould-making, prototyping and 3-D technologies. The purchase agreement was signed by the fair's owner, Moldexpo LLC, and Mesago Messe Frankfurt GmbH, part of the Messe Frankfurt Group.
