The 20th edition of UFI's Global Barometer for the exhibition industry reports strong results for 2017 and very good prospects for 2018 in terms of turnover growth. The top business issues remain the state of the economy in home markets, and global economic development - the first one rising in importance, the latter one's importance declining.

"Future-Proof Exhibitions" will be the main theme for the 2018 UFI European Conference. With focus on changing event formats, consolidation, digital transition, and security, the exhibition industry event will be held in Verona, Italy, from 2-4 May, and hosted by Veronafiere.

Messe Wien now holds a new safety concept. "Safety for our guests and visitors is our utmost importance when it comes to handling events at Messe Wien," stresses Benedikt Binder-Krieglstein, CEO of Reed Exhibitions, operator of the Viennese venue.

Messe Frankfurt has acquired Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Fair to expand the worldwide portfolio of its Light + Building brand of trade fairs. Powered by Messe Frankfurt since their inception in 2015, the two fairs will now officially form part of the Light + Building family that totals 15 fairs around the globe.

UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, launched its revamped industry-focused blog, "UFI Blog". This newly redesigned blog offers quick and easy access to articles on trending topics and features, and direct access to an online community of industry peers.

Messe Frankfurt has acquired a majority holding in Middle East Cleaning Technology Week in Dubai, further strengthening its position in the Middle East, one of the fastest growing regions of the world. The fair and exhibition company will organise the event in cooperation with VIS Exhibition and conferences, Dubai.
In Cologne, construction of the new Hall 1plus will begin in 2018, trade fair organiser Koelnmesse announces. Moreover, the plans are being finalized for the CONFEX, the new multi-purpose event location, which will draw additional high-calibre congresses to Cologne. The renovation of the existing Southern Halls is in full swing.

Messe Stuttgart is continuing to expand its business activities in Iran. A partnership has now been established with ibex, the most important Iranian trade fair for the bakery trade. The German trade fair organiser will be responsible at the next event for everything relating to international exhibitors and for its local implementation from 22 - 25 November 2018.

It's a family business: Since January 2018, the Heidelberg trade fair specialist fairtrade is being managed by a dual management team, since Paul März joined the management board as the second managing director alongside his father Martin. Martin März founded the company in 1991.
