At Messe Berlin, the new Hall 27 will architecturally complete the circle of buildings on the grounds.
At the meeting of the supervisory board of Messe Berlin GmbH a unanimous decision was reached on the construction of a new hall. This is needed to provide extra space in order to begin the urgent task of modernising existing halls on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. Furthermore, the new hall will serve to meet the constantly rising demand for floor space at Messe Berlin. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Christian Göke: “We will issue a call for tenders without delay and begin construction as soon as possible in order to ensure that in autumn of next year, ahead of InnoTrans 2018, the new hall enables our leading trade fairs to take place smoothly. This construction project represents an investment in the future of our trade fair business in Berlin. Messe Berlin is able to finance the investment totalling 55 million euros with its own resources.”

Protecting current business activities

Messe Berlin is of major economic importance for the Land of Berlin. Its turnover in the past financial year is forecast to exceed 308 million euros, a record figure. Furthermore, exhibitors and visitors from out of town who came to Messe Berlin boosted consumer spending by around 1.7 billion euros. This success is due mainly to five leading international trade fairs: IFA, InnoTrans, ITB Berlin, FRUIT LOGISTICA and the International Green Week Berlin, whose displays for the most part occupy the entire Berlin Exhibition Grounds. In order to undertake the necessary, step-by-step renovation and modernisation of existing display halls it is imperative to create extra space in order to protect current business activities.

Pillar-free design

The new hall is to be a versatile, multi-purpose, single-storey building boasting a pillar-free design, providing 10,000 m² of floor space, which technically, architecturally and in terms of flexibility will satisfy today’s market demands. It will also provide a venue for conference events in the periods between large trade fairs. Construction of Hall 27 will architecturally complete the circle of buildings on the grounds and once renovation work has finished will provide additional floor space. The new Hall and subsequent renovation of buildings on the grounds will enable Messe Berlin to meet the challenges of the future as well those posed by the ever-growing importance of this venue.
