The Press Days will take place on the 7th and 8th of March, 2017. Halls 1 and 6 will be dedicated to automobile manufacturers, designers, and preparation specialists, while Hall 7 will be reserved for representatives of the Swiss automobile industry. The new official website for the 2017 Show went online recently. It can be found under its new address: http://www.gims.swiss/. André Hefti, the Managing Director, explained: “ Three years ago, we have started a process to reinforce the international image of this event. This process has begun with the change of the official logo which carries the name of the event in English. It was therefore logical to adapt the address of the official website as a consequence. GIMS is the contraction for the Geneva International Motor Show, the international identity of our event. The internet domaine .swiss, which was opened by the Swiss government at the end of last year, represents our Swiss anchorage with its values of neutrality, security, cleanless, etc., and which contribute significantly to the success of the Motor Show."
As for the marques, models and premiers that will be presented, the 2017 edition promises to be rich in new discoveries and emotional experiences. “We are delighted to be able to say that the Geneva International Motor Show represents not only a valuable venue for the major manufacturers but each year attracts an important number of constructors and preparation specialists of exceptional automobiles.” Emphasised Mr. Maurice Turrettini, President of the Foundation Council. The Committee has now approved the plan of the stands and the complete exhibition surface at Palexpo has now been booked.
New concept for exhibitors
Hall 7 will again be dedicated to the Swiss automobile industry. In this space, the number of accessories suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) has diminished over recent years. The length of the Motor Show has become problematic for small and medium size companies. The SAA (Swiss Automotive Aftermarket) association is hoping to attract more professional visitors. To this end, a new concept is being developed which would allow exhibitors to choose between having a presence during the total duration of the Motor Show on their own stand, or to have a shorter term presence (from Tuesday, March 7th to Monday, March 13, 2017) on a modular stand. A programme of conferences and round-tables will complete the offer, which has already attracted a number of subscribers, including an enterprise who has been absent from the Motor Show for a number of years.
Real international venue
The Geneva International Motor Show is the only international Motor Show recognised by the OICA (International Organisation of Automobile Constructors) that takes place every year in Europe and is a member of the “Top 5” worldwide. In 2016 the exhibition halls of Palexpo were packed. There were more than 130 World and European Premiers presented to more than 10,000 media representatives from all over the world, bearing witness to the Show’s importance.
The results from a survey of visitors conducted last March revealed that 20 per cent of the 690,000 visitors stated they would buy a new car during this year and 24.3 per cent intended to buy one next year. The best news was that nearly 52 per cent of the visitors plan to spend between 20,000 and 50,000 Swiss Francs for a new car and 5 per cent more than 100,000 Swiss Francs, and respectively in Euros as 45 per cent of visitors came from outside of Switzerland, again confirming the international nature of the Motor Show.
