RoboUniverse is the leading professional robotics conference and exposition that promotes practical applications of robots and intelligent systems while considering the impact of robotic technologies on human behavior and implications to society.
The show takes place at San Diego Convention Center on December 14-15, 2016. The motto of this years RoboUniverse in San Diego will be “Robots, Drones, and The Internet of Everything“. There will be numerous on conference on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th. The most interesting for visitors with an industrial automation background will be:Next-Generation Infrastructure for Machine Intelligence, Commerical AI Toolsets for IOT and Robotics, A Perspective on Challenges in Robotics, Advancements in Manipulation and Supporting Human Capital with Accessible Bionic Technology

Next-Generation Infrastructure for Machine Intelligence

As Deep Learning and other Machine Learning approaches gain popularity, new infrastructure needs to be created to handle the exponentially increasing computational load, both in the cloud and on the edge. Visitors will learn how companies address these challenges with optimized systems and solutions that makes the scaling of a new generation of machine learning solutions possible.

Commerical AI Toolsets for IOT and Robotics

A new generation of powerful hardware and software tools are enabling developers and system integrators to harness the power of AI to fuel an IOT (Internet of Things) and Robotics boom. From products that can integrate and analyze a variety of sensor inputs, including acceleration, vibration, sound, image, AC power, and RF signals, to customizable software SDKs and reconfigurable hardware IPs to enable I2OT (Intelligent Internet of Things), new tools are allowing the benefits of deep learning to be accessible to everyone. Applications range from image/video-based solutions enabling smart surveillance, smart multimedia database management, ADAS, and more.

A Perspective on Challenges in Robotics

We are currently experiencing tremendous growth in the adoption of robots for everyday tasks such as improved manufacturing, improving quality of life for an aging population and securing our first responders. Robots enable a range of new services and secures continued growth for society. In this presentation major opportunities in robotics will be reviewed, as detailed in the National Robotics Roadmap, and it will be discussed how Southern California is an ideal environment for further developing a robotics innovation eco-system. The discussion will also include a survey of the necessary core technologies, key business drivers, and requirements for continuing buildout of this industry.

Advancements in Manipulation

Advancements in manipulation technologies such as electro-adhesion, pneumatics, and advanced algorithms bring automation capabilities to industries and operations where automation has been difficult. These new manipulators can also handle a large range of materials and shapes. Applications include everything from garment and footwear manufacturing to and previously difficult areas of manufacturing, warehousing and shipping industries. Combining these new capabilities with advanced vision and control systems means difficult to automate operations across a variety of industries are now seeing new levels of efficiency.

Supporting Human Capital with Accessible Bionic Technology

While much of manufacturing production has shifted from human to robotic technology, there are still thousands of jobs that require unstructured human intervention. Maneuvers such as lifting, bending over, welding, and overhead work can be difficult and potential dangerous to industrial workers’ health. An industry and government funded start-up enterpriese has developed exoskeleton technology that is able to assist workers’ strength and ability to perform various tasks, without hindering natural body movements. The entreprise’s executives and engineers will demo the device and explain its industry potential.
