Around 50 startups from eight countries are exhibiting at this year’s EMO Hannover in Hall 6, Stand C11 and F18. "This is now the fourth time that we are running the Startup Area at the EMO. It is a concept which helps to create connections between well-established companies in our industry and up-and-coming technology companies," says Stephanie Simon, who is in charge of organizing the EMO Startup Area on behalf of the VDW. "Our Startup Area is sold out. The strong demand despite a difficult economic situation shows that, together with the VDMA Startup Machine, we have now built up a very good reputation among startups. And they expect good business opportunities from their participation in the EMO," she says happily. In total, almost 80 startups will be exhibiting at the EMO 2025. (more…)8 October 2024
No fear of AI – Motek/Bondexpo is ready for the future
Companies in the manufacturing industry are facing major challenges – efficiency, cost-effectiveness, conservation of resources and a shortage of skilled labour. This year, suppliers and users will be exchanging ideas on how to further improve manufacturing processes at the Motek/Bondexpo industry platform. The stakes are high – and manufacturers need to prepare for the future. The industry’s traditional autumn event, complemented by a high-calibre supporting programme, aims to demonstrate new and viable paths. (more…)19 March 2024
This year, AnugaFoodTec 2024 reflects the entire spectrum of modern process analysis technologies for the food and beverage industries. Thanks to progress in the field of optical technologies, many tasks of quality control and assurance can in the meantime be solved in real time. Artificial intelligence and deep learning algorithms thereby play an increasingly important role on the Cologne fair grounds." (more…)14 November 2023
A new software framework is to make it easier for companies to approve or audit applications based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The framework is being jointly developed by Fraunhofer IPA in conjunction with the Institute of Industrial Manufacturing and Management IFF at the University of Stuttgart as part of the “AIQualify” research project of the German Association for Quality (DGQ). Big Data meets Machine Learning
From the Internet of Things, over cloud solutions and Big Data to mobile apps: advancing digitalization enables services and solutions for the off-highway markets to be designed more individually, more consistently and more transparently. (more…)22 October 2023
Making stationary retail more attractive to customers again with the help of digital solutions – this was the goal of the partners working together on the Knowledge4Retail (K4R) project from January 2020 to December 2022. The group presented the results at the final meeting this spring. The core of the project is a K4R open-source platform available on internet host GitHub, a version control system, which makes the results accessible to retailers. Retail companies can use the platform to connect analog and digital worlds as well as analyze processes more easily and generate purchasing behavior forecasts, for example. In the process, the project partners developed solutions for applications in logistics, store set-up, service robotics and a fully automated kiosk. (more…)10 October 2023
The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen has expanded its machinery with a new system for the automated molding of high-precision optical glass components. As a result, the institute is now the only research institution in Europe able to offer research on efficient small-series production of small glass optics using a wafer-level approach. Large individual optics with a diameter of up to 150 millimeters can also be manufactured with the facility. (more…)13 March 2023
In the “smood® — smart neighborhood” project, sixteen companies, four research institutions and an association have been working together, with the scientific support of Fraunhofer, on the future of energy-related renovation measures over the past few years. Covering everything from digitalized planning processes and innovative district storage systems for electricity and heat to intelligent control and operational management solutions, the project aims to ensure that existing district facilities are ready for the energy transition — and that tenants benefit from lower costs of living as a result.
