•••2••• Messewelten Digital healthcare in focus Medica 2018 to shine a spotlight on latest IT trends A t this year’s Medica, digital transformation within the healthcare economy remains a main topic and will be discussed intensively. “Digital transforma- tion is shaping the health econ- omy worldwide, and changing processes and business models, sometimes radically,” stresses Horst Giesen, Global Portfolio Di- rector for Health & Medical Tech- nology at Messe Düsseldorf. “We will pursue this hot topic and investigate it from a range of viewpoints in our forums and accompanying conferences,” he explains. This is confirmed by the visitor interest, according to the organizer, who announces that the communication and informa- tion platforms Medica Health IT Forum and Medica Connected Healthcare Forum (including the Medica App Competition) alone counted over 8,000 visitors last year. The discussions, presenta- tions and speeches in these fo- rums will once again serve to update the visitors (to Hall 15) on essential digitalization and IT trends such as opportunities to implement artificial intelligence, big data analysis via algorithms or cyber security measures. Equally, innovative products and technol- ogy will be presented, from the wearable technology, telehealth and robotics and apps sectors, to name a few. The Medica Academy sets its course for blockbuster topics in medical practice once more. Fol- lowing its premier in 2017, it will be held again this year, as a certi- fied further education event for doctors from various specialities. In addition to practical courses “on devices” (e. g. ultrasound) and updates on general medical diagnostics and therapeutic is- sues, digital topics are also on the programme, in the form of ses- sions on cyber security in medical practices and best practices for telemedicine. Other programme highlights at Medica 2018 include the DiMiMED conference for disaster and mili- tary medicine and the Medica Medicine + Sports Conference (respectively on 13 and 14 Novem- ber 2018 / Congress Center Düssel- dorf South) that will be focusing on prevention and sports medical treatment concepts. Compamed 2018 will also take place alongside Medica 2018, on all four days (12 to 15 November) in Halls 8a and 8b. With around 800 exhibitors, Com- pamed is the leading international market platform for suppliers of the medical technology industry. Medica 2018 als Hotspot für junge, innovative Unternehmen Die Medica als „Start- rampe“ für viele Start- ups: Unter dem Motto „Medica Disrupt“ prä- sentieren sich täglich jun- ge Unternehmen auf dem Medica Connected Healthcare Forum und der Medica App Compe- tition in der Düsseldorfer Messehalle 15. Die Bühne betreten wer- den insgesamt mehr als 50 Start-ups, die Lösun- gen für die Behandlung von Hautkrebs, von chroni- schen Krankheiten (beispielsweise an Herz und Lun- ge), für das Telemonitoring bis hin zum Tracking von Vitalparametern und Aktivität vorstellen. Im Medica Start-Up Park und an den Gemeinschaftsständen ins- besondere von Frankreich, Israel und Finnland finden sich ebenfalls spannende Start-ups.
