For Ecuador, as the official partner country of this global trade fair, this is the per- fect opportunity to present its fruit and vegetable exports and to establish new contacts in the wholesale and retail sector, espe- cially with import companies that are interested in the great variety and high quality that marks the produce from Ecuador. Between 2014 and 2018, Ecuador exported over $ 3.5 billion of fresh produce, primarily to Russia (18 per cent), the United States (16 per cent), Italy (seven per cent), Germany (seven per cent), Turkey (fife per cent) and China (four per cent). The export volume increased by 15 per cent, from 6.2 million tons in 2014 to seven million tons in 2018. Ecuador’s main exports during the same period included bananas (six million tons), plan- tains (212 tons), baby bananas (139 tons), pineapples (81 tons), broccoli (74 tons) and mangoes (60 tons). At Fruit Logistica 2020, Ecuador will showcase its variety of prod- ucts and present potential fresh fruit exports such as tree toma- toes, prickly nuts, mortiño (Ande- an blueberry), pineapple, grapes, papaya, avocados, pitahayas and many other products. Ecuador took part in Fruit Logis- tica for the first time in 2002.
