P arallel forums address various tar- get groups. At the opening of the international conference, an EU Commission representative will be speaking about the current status of the European Accessibility Act. In the afternoon, parallel forums will take a closer look at solutions for an independent life at home and on the go that are suitable for the elderly. The forums also focus on technologies for barrier-free work places as well as inclusive digital of- fers in the education sector. The M-Enabling Forum will be hos- ted in room 3 at the Congress Cen- ter Düsseldorf Süd (CCD Süd). The conference is accompanied by an exhibition in the foyer, where com- panies and sponsors present new aids and services for a barrier-free, independent life. Among them are acoustic aids for the hearing impaired, for example, as well as screen reading systems for the blind. A particular highlight at the event is the live virtual reality showcase, which simulates various visual im- pairments and blindness as well as a tremor as an example of mo- tor disorders. Using virtual reality glasses, conference participants can immerse themselves in vari- ous scenarios and gain tangible, first-hand experience of these li- mitations. ven though powerful technologies are already available, they often still need to make their way into the everyday life of people with disabi- lities. “When developing software, websites and products, it is essen- tial to consider the needs of these people from the start,” emphasises Regine Gessner. Even though there is still much to be done, the success of the M-Enabling Forum is already noticeable. “Since last year, we ha- ve seen a significant improvement in awareness of the importance of digital participation as well as in na- me recognition of our event,” says project manager Gessner. 150 conference guests from 14 countries took up the invitation to the first M-Enabling Forum in Euro- pe in September 2018 and thus pro- ved that REHACARE provides the ideal backdrop for this top specialist event. The conference is organised by E.J.Krause & Associates Inc. and G3ict, one of the projects initiated by the United Nations in 2011, which drives the development of inclusive information and communication technology worldwide.When re- gistering, people with disabilities can download a barcode onto their phone in order to access informa- tion as an audio file. The presen- tations and discussions will all be simultaneously translated into Eng- lish and German and subtitled in parallel. Hearing impaired people with their own hearing devices or cochlear implants can request an amplifier (neck loop). The forum has become an important event within REHACARE. Photo : Messe Düsseldorf / ctillmanns Inklusives Unternehmen übernimmt IT-Recycling Auf der REHACARE unterzeichnet die Messe Düsseldorf den Vertrag mit dem Ettlinger IT-Betrieb AfB Das Recycling und Remarketing von IT-Hardware aus dem Hause Messe Düsseldorf wird ab Sep- tember 2019 der Ettlinger IT-Be- trieb AfB übernehmen. AfB steht für Arbeit für Menschen mit Be- hinderung. Etwa 47 Prozent der europaweit 380 Mitarbeiter des Unternehmens haben eine Be- einträchtigung. Die IT-Firma wur- de bereits mehrfach für ihr öko- logisch und sozial nachhaltiges Handeln ausgezeichnet, unter an- derem mit dem Deutschen Nach- haltigkeitspreis. „Die Zusammenarbeit mit AfB macht es uns möglich, gleich zwei wichtige Unternehmensziele mit- einander zu verbinden, nämlich ökologisch möglichst nachhaltig zu handeln und die Inklusion in der Arbeitswelt durch Partner- schaften mit Unternehmen zu fördern, die sie selbstverständlich und erfolgreich leben. Als Veran- stalter der internationalen Fach- messe REHACARE sehen wir uns hier in einer besonderen Verant- wortung,“ erläutert Werner Mat- thias Dornscheidt, Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung der Messe Düsseldorf, die Entscheidung. Grund genug, die neue Verbin- dung während der REHACARE 2019 vom 18. bis 21. September in Düsseldorf zu besiegeln. Zum Messeauftakt am Mittwoch, 18. September um 14.00 Uhr werden Vertreter der Geschäftsführungen von AfB und Messe Düsseldorf den Vertrag im TREFFPUNKT RE- HACARE, dem für alle Messebesu- cher offenen Informationsforum in der Messehalle 6, unterzeich- nen. Die AfB übernimmt jährlich von mehr als 1 000 Unternehmen und öffentlichen Einrichtungen über 360 000 Geräte. Diese werden zertifiziert gelöscht, aufberei- tet und wiederverkauft. Mit der Vermeidung von Neuprodukti- onen und der Rückführung der Geräte in den Wirtschaftskreis- lauf werden natürliche Ressour- cen geschont sowie weiterer Elektroschrott und CO 2 -Ausstoß vermieden. Allein im Jahr 2018 konnten so über 11 600 Tonnen CO 2 -Äquivalente, über 16 440 Tonnen Eisen-Äquivalente sowie mehr als 36 560 Megawatt Ener- gie gespart werden. Letzteres entspricht dem jährlichen Durch- schnittsverbrauch an Strom von über 17 400 Zwei-Personen-Haus- halten. IT-Müll als Teil des Elektroschrotts ist kein Müll wie jeder andere. Er enthält viele wertvolle Rohstoffe, aber auch jede Menge Schadstof- fe und gehört deshalb in die Hän- de von Recycling-Spezialisten. Das passiert bei Weitem noch nicht in demMaße, wie es wünschenswert wäre. Laut Statistischem Bundes- amt fallen in Deutschland aktuell 38 Millionen Tonnen Haushalts- abfälle an, davon werden rund 68 Prozent recycelt, bei Elektro- schrott sind es 39 Prozent. Ein Grund dafür: Während die Deut- schen in Sachen Hausmülltrennung spitze sind, hapert es beimUmgang mit Elektroschrott.
