••• 7 ••• Messewelten Wood Industry Summit in Hall 26 Top theme “Access to Resources and Technology” – Event includes an all-new group pavilion T he Wood Industry Summit will be in its third season at Ligna 2019. Staged in Hall 26 and themed “Access to Resources and Technology”, the summit is a well- established showcase for the for- estry and wood industries. It is organised by Deutsche Messe in conjunction with the German Forestry Council (KWF) and com- prises a forum, lounge and exhi- bition area. The summit is always attuned to the future, and in 2019 it will include an all-new group pavilion that will explore the im- plications of the German govern- ment’s “Charter for Wood 2.0” policy direction. Entitled “Future Workshop for Wood & Forestry under the Char- ter for Wood 2.0” , the pavilion is a showcase for international startups, a hub where young, in- novative companies can present their ideas and visions for the fu- ture of the forestry and wood in- dustries. The new group pavilion is pro- duced and run by the organisers of Ligna in partnership with the German Sawmilling and Wood Industry Association (DeSH), Germany’s Agency for Renew- able Resources (FNR), the Minis- try for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Pro- tection of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MULNV) and the German Forestry Council (KWF). “Our aim in establishing this new showcase is to secure the ongoing international com- petitiveness of the forestry and wood industries and to facilitate networking and relationships be- tween industry startups and in- dustry incumbents,” explained Christian Pfeiffer, Deutsche Messe’s Global Director LIGNA & Woodworking Events. “Ultimate- ly, the objective is to support the early identification of new oppor- tunities. The new showcase will do this by facilitating practically focused dialogue among key de- cision-makers and by delivering thought-provoking technical pres- entations on a wide range of topic areas,” he added. At this year’s Ligna, the Wood Industry Sum- mit will be in its third season. Sustainable packag- ing solutions and environmentally conscious technologies are in de- mand, even having an impact on the image of a company: the use of pack- aging material made of plastic is syn- onymous with loss of image. Parallel to these general trends, we are see- ing further change, especially in the furniture industry. Driven by rising labor costs and the lack of availabil- ity of labor, concepts for automated packaging solutions in general are required here. On the other hand packaging solutions with high prod- uct protection are required, which meet high quality requirements. The special machine manufacturer WÄCHTER is a traditional, family- run and internationally active com- pany that stands for the quality fea- ture Made in Germany. The fact that WÄCHTER, as a specialist in the field of end-of-line packaging, builds complete and complex packaging lines for a wide variety of products and industries, is nothing new. What is new is that WÄCHTER packs in- dividual parts in the area of furniture - for batch size 1 as well as for series production. Also new is that in these concepts, the carton blanks have in- tegrated product protection that is formed during the folding process. What is new, wants to be shown. Both concepts will be presented in Hall 15 , Booth D23 . When packing furniture, various components are packed in a box. These components differ in shape, size, weight and material. Typical contents are furniture items, fit- tings, screws, etc. This packaging situation involves two difficulties and thus process optimization. First, each component has its own han- dling requirements due to its differ- ent nature. Second, merging large and small content often creates un- used white space that is filled with filler. Optimization can be done by an automated packing process and pre-packaging. Complex packaging processes and logistics processes are rectified, logistics costs are op- timized. Another advantage of this WÄCHTER concept, is the scala- bility of the fully automated pack- aging system. The modular design enables both a minimum and a maximum solution as well as all stages of development in between: from the individual conveyor belt to the fully automatic packag- ing line. The customer has with WÄCHTER a contact in the en- tire packaging process.
