Labvolution 2019
•••6••• Messewelten New conference format at Labvolution Glass Laboratory Academy (GLA) from Berlin is staging two full-day events in Hanover O n two days of the Labvolu- tion show, the Glass Labora- tory Academy (GLA) from Berlin will now be staging its own pro- gramme here for the first time. “We are delighted about our new partnership with the Glass Labo- ratory Academy,” says Bernd Heinold, Labvolution director at Deutsche Messe. “Participants can catch up on all the latest de- velopments and get a first-hand insight into different sectors of the industry. Before and after, they’ll be able to visit exhibitors’ stands, so everybody benefits.” On the agenda for Wednesday, 22 May, is “Laboratory 4.0 for Technicians in the Life Sciences”, which explores issues such as au- tomated liquid handling, digital laboratory notebooks, and CRIS- PR/Cas for beginners. The target group includes technicians and lab assistants in the life sciences, who also receive GLA certificates on completion of the workshop. The session “Young Life Scien- tists – Business Orientation” on Thursday, 23 May, is aimed at PhD students and post-docs. This is all about giving sound advice on ca- reer choices for young research scientists thinking of going into the biotech or pharma industries. The subject of careers and further training will also be addressed at other events taking place at Lab- volution on the Thursday of the show, such as the Biotechnica Forum. The GLA speakers are all distinguished experts from the research establishments and busi- nesses located on the Berlin-Buch Science Campus, from Berlin’s universities, from the pharmaceu- tical industry, biotech companies, CROs, and from leading German research institutes. Background For more than 15 years, the GLA has been offering in-service train- ing with seminars, workshops, and practical laboratory courses for natural scientists and techni- cians working in the life sciences. The GLA is based on the Berlin- Buch Science Campus, in close proximity to about 45 innovative biotechnology and medical engi- neering firms, as well as high-pro- file research establishments such as the MaxDelbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helm- holtz Association (MDC) and the Leibniz Research Institute for Mo- lecular Pharmacology (FMP). Labvolution showcases every fac- et of laboratory work, from the life sciences to analytical chem- istry, and covers the full array of equipment and infrastructure for research, analysis, production and training laboratories, as needed by the chemical, pharmaceutical, life sciences, environmental protec- tion, food and bioanalytics indus- tries, as well as the R&D sector. A major focus of Labvolution, which began as a spin-off from Biotechnica, is the biotech and re- search sector, the subject of vari- ous presentations in the Biotech- nica Forum. Labvolution serves as an international platform for the discussion of current topics of in- terest, such as Lab 4.0, laboratory workflows, and bioanalytics, and adds value for the visitor with for- mats for knowledge transfer and experience sharing. The new event will focus on Laboratory 4.0 Photo: Deutsche Messe AG Jobs and career opportunities This year’s Labvolution to offer “job wall” and “Career Day” Labvolution offers attending professionals a wide range of services related to career orientation, job seeking, career opportuni- ties and further training. Thursday is also Career Day at the Biotechnica Forum. For everyone who is interested in a job in the natural sciences or want to advance your current career, Labvolution is the place to come for helpful advice. One source of this is jobvector, the careers portal for scientists in high-tech industries, which will be present at the European trade fair for innovative lab technology to inform visitors about career opportunities and concrete job openings. As a special bonus, every visitor will receive a free copy of their “Career Trends” guide for specialists, featuring comprehensive in- formation on career profiles and industry trends along with helpful tips on career ad- vancement and job application strategies. The jobvector “job wall” will post numerous current job advertisements from top em- ployers – ranging from small and medium- sized enterprises to global players. Thursday is Career Day at the Biotechnica Forum within Labvolution. Here, too, com- panies will be available for career coun- seling. Jobvector will kick things off at 10:00 a.m. with a presentation on questions like: Which job best suits me? Which em- ployer fits my personal profile? And which industries are open to me? Professor Dr. Philipp Rosenstiel von der Universität Kiel referiert über „Das Mikrobiom – unser anderes Genom“, Dr. Till Strowig vom Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infek- tionsforschung in Braunschweig über „Insights into the microbio- me: from microbial signatures to functions“.
