By the end of 2016, 52,000 solar storage units had been installed in Germa- ny alone. The trend seen in recent years continues, and those want- ing to keep up to date should make a stop at the session titled Status of PV Home Storage: Com- peting Technologies, Perfor- mance Optimization. There are many competing concepts in this area, and individual decisions will be discussed and explained dur- ing the presentation using practi- cal examples. Another hot topic this year is the growth of lithium- ion cells, with Asian companies leading the way in mass produc- tion. The panel discussion titled Battery Cell Production in Europe will host highly-esteemed indus- try representatives to discuss the possibilities for Europe, looking in particular at political decisions for the German energy transition and the e-mobility trend. Further- more, the role of supercapacitors and fly wheels for the short-term storage of decentralized renewa- ble energy is analyzed in the pres- entation titled Non-Battery Stor- age Techno log ies – From Short-Term to Seasonal Solutions.
