New Driver Aware- ness Technology Cobra Electronics, the leading de- signer and marketer of award- winning automotive, mobile and consumer electronics, has an- nounced the release of the new Cobra Elite Series: Road Scout and DualPro 360°, the latest in intelli- gent driver information systems. The first of its kind, the Cobra Road Scout Elite offers an innova- tive 2-in-1 solution to keep drivers in the know: a highly accurate, long-range radar detection sys- tem and a high-definition dash cam in a single unit. The product’s compact design easily blends with a vehicle’s interior for a stream- lined and simple installation. Both Cobra Elite Series systems allow drivers to receive instant notifica- tions on various issues. OLED screens can be folded away and stored easily. Photo: LG 5 G, the technology for tomorrow’s superfast communication networks, is the dominant feature of other innova- tive trends. The first market-ready 5G smartphones will be on show at IFA 2019, with other mobile devic- es to follow soon. Interesting prototypes Innovative screen technology con- tinues to set the tone in spectacu- lar fashion at IFA -flexible OLED screens for instance: visitors to IFA can look forward to large TVs that can be rolled up and stowed away in a neat cabinet as well as tablets that can be folded in half to make a handy smartphone. Prototypes will offer a foretaste of the mobile phone of the future, looking like a large bracelet adorning one’s wrist. Other prototype screens are able to switch to ‘transparent mode’, if desired, and resemble a clear window pane until the device software puts colourful images onto the screen again. Micro LEDs, also known as Crystal LEDs, represent another type of screen tech- nology with good prospects. These dis- plays create images using color crystal LEDs – and are already spawning an entire new range of products: IFA will be showing Micro LED dis- plays which can be transformed into tiles of varying shapes and sizes. A new generation of projectors is now capable of screening mega- sized images. The ones made for convenient home use can project images from a very short distance close to the screen. Other fasci- nating models that can be easily installed in any location come in slim, high-sided, portable cabi- nets. They project light upwards onto folding mirrors, so that imag- es can be positioned precisely on- to a screen without adjustments.
