IAA 2018

•••6••• Messewelten Suitable for zero-emissions local transport Hot topic alternative powertrains: electric vans go into series at IAA Commercial Vehicles A part from digitization, con- nectivity and automated driv- ing, alternative powertrains are the most important topic at this year’s IAA. Electric vans are push- ing forward on all fronts: German and international van manufactur- ers are exhibiting battery electric vans which are either going into series now or are already available on the market. From the conceptual studies pre- sented at the IAA two years ago, series models have been devel- oped which offer substantial ad- vantages over conventional pow- ertrains with internal combustion engines. These electric vans offer a zero-emissions option for local transport; they operate silently, have quick-charging batteries and boast a range of 120 – 200 km (de- pending on the manufacturer and make). They have a cargo volume of six to 20 cubic metres and a payload capacity of 900 to 1,750 kg. Smaller electric vans with a good four cubic metres of cargo volume and a payload capacity of about 700 kg will also be on dis- play at the IAA. With this capacity, these vans – in particular, those used by CEP (courier, express and package) services, skilled tradespeople and delivery agents – can carry out their daily tasks in an optimal manner. There is now a range of vehicles available for the deliv- ery sector – a sector in which the “last mile” is especially important – which meets the latest logistic requirements and is suitable for zero-emissions local transport. The rapid growth of online retail- ing has been accompanied by a similar increase in goods transport and thus by increased demand for vans in urban areas. Topics such as “The Future of Urban Logistics” and “Alternative Powertrains as a Tipping Point for the Commercial Vehicle Industry” are also on the programme at the New Mobility World (NMW) FORUM devoted to an intense discussion of topics of the future at the IAA 2018. Fur- thermore, visitors to the IAA can experience e-mobility live during test drives of electric vans on the fair grounds. “Driving tomorrow” is the motto of the 67th IAA Commercial Vehicles. Through the years it has reached an important position as a manufacturer and distributor of components and products to the refrigeration and air conditioning industry . The experience gained in 50 years and the continuous technical re- search, have culminated in the manufacturing and supplying of products which conforms with in- ternational quality standards and high reliability. Rivacold products with consist of 3 main product ranges: refrigerating systems for commercial and industrial station- ary refrigeration ; heat exchangers and truck refrigeration units. Rivacold Truck Refrigeration prod- uct range originated through the acquisition of an historical Italian company in 2009 that together with the field experience of the original company people and Rivacold R&D designers gave birth to the present products line. BAT, HDD and DDU are Battery systems, Hid- den and Direct Drive Systems. BAT systems: compact models de- signed for fresh and frozen goods transport on small-sized commer- cial insulated vehicles normally used for urban deliveries. Its main characteristics are the fast and easy installation; the only connection with the vehicle is the battery feed- ing cable. Split Unit: condenser and evaporator installed separately. The condenser installation can be roof, front type or under-mount. The extra slim evaporator can be sup- plied both in the horizontal (roof) or vertical (wall) installation mode. These models are available in two versions: working on road with ve- hicle’s battery feeding 12V DC and working also in stand-by, by means of a transformer 230V AC - 12V DC integrated in the condensing unit. HDD systems: are innovative mod- els designed for fresh goods trans- port on small-sized commercial insulated vehicles for urban deliv- eries. Its main characteristics are the “Hidden installation” inside the vehicles. Split Unit: condenser and evapora- tor installed separately. The con- denser is integrated inside the ve- hicle. The extra slim evaporator can be supplied both in the horizontal (roof) or vertical (wall) installa- tion mode. These models can work on road with compressor directly driven by the vehicles engine or in stand-by with a 230V single-phase hermetic compressor installed in- side the vehicle. DDU: compact model designed for fresh and frozen goods transport on small and medium size com- mercial insulated vehicles normally used for urban deliveries. Split Unit: condenser and evaporator installed separately. The condenser installa- tion can be roof or front type. The extra slim evaporator can be supplied both in the horizontal (roof) or verti- cal (wall) installation mode. All the models work with an open compres- sor installed on the vehicle engine. They can be mounted on small and medium size commercial vehicles. They can work at 0°C and – 20°C. All the units are supplied with all the accessories for an easy and fast installation: water drain accesso- ries, refrigeration and connection components (hosing and fittings) electrical connection set (vehicle battery power cables), control board to be installed in the driver’s cab. Rivacold is exhibiting in IAA 2018 for the first time as co-exhibitor with Vitrifrigo, the sister company member of the same group (Vitri Alceste Group) exhibiting port- able and built-in refrigerators and air conditioning systems for driv- ers cab.
