This comes from up to 5,000-year-old shards of pottery archeologists excava- ted in remains of settlements of the ancient Egyptians, Philistines and Judeans. One of the directors of the project, Prof. Aren M. Mair, says, the biggest surprise was to find out how long yeast is able to survive without any nutrition.
