••• 3 ••• Branchennews Weltleitmesse setzt Impulse Baumaschinenindustrie erwartet nur langsame Erholung Nach dem Rekordjahr 2023 ist der Umsatz von Baumaschinen aus deutscher Produktion im Jahr 2024 um real 21 Prozent zurückgegangen, nominal um 20 Prozent. Am stärksten verloren Hochbaumaschinen mit minus 26 Prozent, gefolgt von Erdbaumaschinen mit minus 23 Prozent und Straßenbaumaschinen mit minus 14 Prozent. Einer der Hauptgründe ist, dass der Absatz von Baumaschinen im Heimatmarkt Deutschland um 31 Prozent eingebrochen ist, was den stärksten Rückgang seit 2009 darstellt. Auch der europäische Markt erlebte ein Absatzminus von über 20 Prozent. Die eingetrübte Weltkonjunktur sorgte dafür, dass außereuropäische Exporte das Bild nicht entscheidend verbessern konnten. Die Hersteller erwarten für das Jahr 2025 ein Umsatzwachstum von rund 5 Prozent, wenn die Rahmenbedingungen für die Unternehmen stimmen, so der einhellige Tenor auf der VDMAJahrestagung der Baumaschinenhersteller am 14. Februar 2025 in Frankfurt. „Jeder muss seinen Beitrag leisten. Eine stabile Regierung bei uns in Deutschland ist die Grundvoraussetzung, zumal für die Baumaschinenindustrie das Nordamerika-Geschäft durch die neue US-Regierung auf wackeligen Beinen steht“, betonte Joachim Strobel, Vorsitzender des VDMA Fachverbandes Baumaschinen und Baustoffanlagen. „Wir können nur immer wieder an die Politik in Deutschland und Europa appellieren, endlich Entbürokratisierungs- und Deregulierungsmaßnahmen auf den Weg zu bringen“, ergänzte Franz-Josef Paus, Vorsitzender der VDMA Fachgruppe Baumaschinen. Hauptrisiken sind eine verzögerte Regierungsbildung in Deutschland nach dem 23. Februar, weiterhin unfaire Wettbewerbsbedingungen im Vergleich zu chinesischen Herstellern und geopolitische Spannungen. Die Hauptabsatzmärkte Europa und Nordamerika sind nicht kalkulierbar, Middle East, insbesondere Saudi-Arabien als derzeit boomende Region, bietet Chancen. In view of this significance, bauma 2025 has added “Networked Construction” to its key topics. Smart attachments with standardized digital language In networked construction, digital technologies and communication systems are integrated into the construction process, which improves collaboration and efficiency. For example, attachments supply process data and communicate with the respective carrier machines. A standardized digital language is required for this communication to also work regardless of the manufacturer. The foundation for this was laid by the MiC 4.0 BUS protocol, which won the Innovation Award in the field of digitization at the last bauma in 2022. Version 1.0 of this is now freely available with full functional security. Thanks to the common universal protocol, the carrier machine recognizes which attachment is to be used, which parameters it needs to function, and whether it is even suitable for use on this machine. “Accidents caused by incorrectly closed quick hitches, unsuitable hydraulic pressure or incorrectly dimensioned attachments can thus be reliably avoided,” reports Dr. Darius Soßdorf, Managing Director of the MiC 4.0 working group at the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA). Bereits 2022 hat die Arbeitsgemeinschaft MiC 4.0 mit ihrem MiC 4.0-Bus für eine universelle Verwendung von Anbaugeräten an Baggern einen großen Aufschlag gemacht, der auf der diesjährigen bauma weiter vorangetrieben und gezeigt wird. Mit dem neuen MiC 4.0 TestTool wird eine existierende Norm - die ISO 15143-3 – anfassbar und überprüfbar. Mit der MiC 4.0 Datenbank dem Anwender zudem transparent gemacht. Informationen über Baumaschinen und über alle Daten, die von den jeweiligen Maschinen erhalten werden können, sind über die unter MiC 4.0 vereinbarte gemeinsame Datensprache sowie deren Bedeutung der Daten transparent einsehbar. Eine neu API für Spezialtiefbohrmaschinen rundet die weiteren Ergebnisse der MiC 4.0 ab und bringt den Maschinennutzer einen weiteren Schritt voran hin zur Digitalisierung der Baustelle und zu herstellerunabhängigen und maschinenübergreifenden Daten. The engine of wheel loaders, mini excavators, etc. can be remotely deactivated – and also reactivated – by the owner with just a few clicks. Sensors connect the physical and virtual world Sensors are a prerequisite for the digitalization of construction machinery, including developing assistance and autonomy systems. For example, they register the boom and bucket position, are used for fluid management, or help detect structural loads and damage. One of the biggest challenges for using sensor technologies in the construction machinery industry is often the harsh working environment, which is why manufacturers like Baumer are developing extremely robust sensors specifically for use in mobile machines. One approach to decarbonization that has been pursued for some time is the switch to alternative drives. At bauma 2025, this trend will continue with a wealth of ideas. For example, the manufacturer Aramine is presenting the L440B, the only battery-powered charger to date that does not require a fixed infrastructure for charging in the mine. Instead, it has an integrated charger that can be used to charge it anywhere as long as a power connection is available. This saves expensive and complex installations. As the machine’s battery unit can be easily connected and disconnected, it is possible to carry out work without interruption thanks to the alternating use of two batteries. Giant excavator with power cable Komatsu is bringing a true titan among electrified mining machines to the Bavarian capital: The PC7000-11E large hydraulic excavator, which is powered by a power cable, is equipped with a classleading 44 m³ backhoe bucket. It combines high digging power with a low carbon footprint. The automatic winding of the cable makes maneuvering in open cast mining safe and easy. Autonomous solutions in different dimensions Another mining giant that also combines decarbonization with the topic of “autonomous driving”, highly relevant especially in mining, is the T 264 dump truck. Developed by Liebherr in collaboration with the Australian mining group Fortescue, the machine is equipped with a 3.2 MW battery and has a payload of 240 tons. The battery powered S1 Vision, also from Liebherr, transports material autonomously – but in a completely different way. The new single-axle vehicle only has two tires, which allows it to turn on the spot and drive in all directions, making it ideal for use in confined spaces. It is scalable and can carry a payload of 220 kilograms to 131 tons. The S1 Vision has been nominated for the bauma Innovation Award in the machine technology category. Networking machine data with each other Digital transformation plays a key role in optimizing mining processes. One of the innovations on show at bauma 2025 in this area is the Underground Manager 2.0. Epiroc’s digital solution for tunnel construction projects seamlessly connects machine data from different units. The platform supports the management of drilling, grouting and anchoring works and acts as a centralized system for streamlined project execution. The Underground Manager 2.0 enables precise planning, real-time performance evaluation and comprehensive operational reporting. Intelligent thanks to on-board diagnostics The Universa 55 from Paus is the next, smart generation of a compact carrier machine for various mining tasks. With their on-board diagnostics, the driver can monitor important operating data in real time, including the sensors of the control elements. The system also supports the diagnosis of active faults, enabling timely intervention to minimize downtime. In addition, the vehicle is preequipped as standard with an interface for connecting to a cloud solution from Paus, which offers functions such as real-time monitoring, geofencing, statistical analyses and remote diagnostics and maintenance. ••• 9 ••• Innovationen Bonding technology Building with wood and concrete Building with wood provides an important contribution towards climate protection. By combining wood and concrete, the Fraunhofer WKI is significantly expanding the range of applications for timber constructions. By means of a novel bonding technology, an accelerated production of woodconcrete composite elements (WCC elements) has been made possible. The aim is to establish construction with WCC elements in multi-story buildings as a competitive alternative to pure precast reinforced concrete components. Wood-concrete hybrid components optimally combine the specific material properties of wood and concrete. With its low weight and high tensile strength, wood is perfectly suited for lightweight construction. The combination with concrete improves the load-bearing capacity, fire resistance and sound insulation, whilst simultaneously enabling a slender component design. In the current “SafeTeCC” research project, researchers at the Fraunhofer WKI are, in collaboration with two research partners and great support from the industry, developing processes and technologies for the rapid and simple production of high-quality wood-concrete composite elements using an innovative rapid-bonding technique. The novel joining technique is intended to improve the structural properties, cost-effectiveness and recyclability of wood-concrete composite elements and, as a result, to contribute towards an increased application of renewable raw materials in solid construction. The researchers are thereby also taking into account the utilization of hardwood as a regionally available raw-material source. “We are developing a standardized procedure for the production of long-term resistant WCC components under practical conditions. In addition to the hotbonding technique, we are testing and analyzing alternative bonding technologies for the joining of wood and smooth-surfaced precast concrete components. This is being conducted in collaboration with our project partners from the Technische Universität Braunschweig and the University of Kassel. During the research work, a practical application for factory and constructionsite production of the components is also being taken into account,” reported Malte Mérono, Project Manager at the Fraunhofer WKI. The research results will be summarized in a practical guide that presents the specific implementation steps and relevant criteria in a user-friendly format. This guide is intended to serve as a planning basis and to facilitate the efficient production of WCC elements by, in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The development devised by Malte Mérono and his partners has already passed the practical test. In collaboration with fischerwerke GmbH & Co. KG, a bonded WCC element has been successfully installed as a suspended ceiling in a multi-story construction project. The company is now seeking building-authority approval for the suspended ceiling. “With the approval of the bonded suspended ceiling, we will take a big step forward towards our goal of being able to utilize wood in multi-story building construction. This is an important contribution towards an ecological revolution in the construction industry, which is dominated by reinforced concrete,” said Malte Mérono. Allein schon deshalb ist eine auf Nachhaltigkeit abzielende gesellschaftliche Entwicklung ohne essentielle Beiträge der Baubranche undenkbar. Einen Überblick über die vielfältigen Ansatzpunkte der Baumaschinenwelt für nachhaltiges Bauen bietet die Messe in diesem Jahr. Serielles Bauen schont Ressourcen Was die Ressourcenschonung angeht, zählt Serielles Bauen zu den vielversprechenden Hebeln. „Hierbei werden Rohstoffe und Materialien effizienter als bei herkömmlichen Bauverfahren genutzt, da in einem kontrollierten industriellen Umfeld vorgefertigt werden kann“, erläutert Stephan Oehme, Referent für Bergbau, Baustoffanlagen und Baumaschinen beim Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V (VDMA). Nach seinen Worten lässt sich so auf mehreren Wegen eine Materialverschwendung reduzieren: Im Werk anfallende Produktionsreste und Ausschussmaterialien können besser rezykliert werden – und auch die Gebäude sind beim Nutzungsende leichter zu demontieren sowie ihre Materialien einfacher wiederzuverwenden. 3D-Druck mit Sekundärrohstoffen und bio-basierten Materialien Als weitere Chance zum Schutz der natürlichen Rohstoffe können beim 3D-Druck von Gebäuden verstärkt Recyclingwerkstoffe eingesetzt werden. Außerdem forscht die Branche an biobasierten Materialien für die additive Fertigung. Die Nachfrage scheint jedenfalls grundsätzlich gegeben: Laut einer Studie des Marktforschungsunternehmens Exactitude Consultancy wird der globale Markt für 3D-Druckmörtel von rund 3,5 Milliarden USDollar im Jahr 2024 auf voraussichtlich etwa 13,8 Milliarden US-Dollar im Jahr 2034 wachsen. Hohe Recyclingquote bei mineralischen Bauabfällen Von den in Deutschland im Jahr 2022 angefallenen rund 208 Millionen Tonnen mineralischer Bauabfälle wurden nach Mitteilung der Initiative Kreislaufwirtschaft Bau über 90 Prozent wiederverwertet. „Der Recyclinggedanke ist mittlerweile tief in die DNA der Baubranche eingeschrieben, was sich nicht zuletzt an vielen höchst sinnvollen Lösungen zeigt“, kommentiert Oehme. Beispielsweise lassen sich mit den Kaltrecyclern der Wirtgen Group Asphaltbeläge an Ort und Stelle aufbereiten. Dabei wird der vorhandene Belag mit einem Fräs- und Mischrotor granuliert und durch die Zugabe von Bindemitteln, Zement und Wasser aufbereitet. Es entsteht ein homogener Baustoff, der direkt wieder eingebaut wird. Elektroantriebe in breitem Anwendungsspektrum Nachhaltiges Bauen schließt auch das Ziel einer möglichst weitgehenden Dekarbonisierung ein. Auf dieses Konto zahlen die alternativen Antriebe von mobilen Baumaschinen ein, denen die bauma auch in 2025 wieder ein eigenes Leitthema widmet. Darüber hinaus werden auch bei Baugeräten – wie Rüttelplatten oder Stampfern – durch Elektrolösungen Abgase und Lärm vermieden. Das Angebotsspektrum ist mittlerweile so breit, dass laut dem Hersteller Wacker Neuson schon heute eine komplett emissionsfreie Baustelle möglich ist. Emissionsarmes Asphaltmischen Als weitere Marktakteure unterstützen ferner die Baustoffhersteller das klimaschonende Bauen. Zum Beispiel setzt mittlerweile ein Asphaltmischbetrieb im hessischen Nentershausen erfolgreich das auf der bauma 2022 als Weltpremiere präsentierte RevocSystem des Herstellers Benninghoven ein. Der nachgerüstete „Katalysator“ ermöglicht es, die GesamtkohlenstoffEmissionen um bis zu 50 Prozent zu reduzieren, während der Recyclinganteil im Asphalt auf bis zu 60 Prozent erhöht werden kann. Außerdem brachte Benninghoven kürzlich den international ersten Asphaltbrenner auf den Markt, der zu 100 Prozent mit grünem Wasserstoff betrieben werden kann.
