AMB Trade fair programme

Retaining skilled workers is still a key challenge in the metal working industry. In order to combat shortages, there is a need for systematic and qualified promotion of young people. This highly topical subject will also be examined during this year's International Exhibition for Metal Working (AMB), which will be held in Stuttgart from 10 to 14 September. The AMB accompanying programme will pay close attention to people as a future driving force for the important industrial sector of metal working. A large number of programme items are aimed at young professionals, business trainees and innovators.

This year’s AMB focuses on the retention of skilled workers. Young talents and innovations are promoted through an extensive accompanying programme.
Inspiring young people for mechanical engineering

The Mechanical Engineering Youth Foundation within the German Machine Tool Builders’Association (VDW) ─ the partner of AMB ─ will stage the Special Show “Education” in the Atrium of Messe Stuttgart. "Our special show is aimed at young people who are interested in technical occupations or are looking for inspiration for vocational training," said Andre Wilms, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Youth Foundation. "We are inviting school classes, in particular, to discover exciting career opportunities in mechanical engineering and become enthusiastic about the industry." The activities in the special show will be interactive and practical. There will be live talks and an opportunity to talk directly with apprentices from partner companies. Interested people can also take part in assembling a model racing car. "Thanks to the combination of the recruitment of young people and the transfer of know-how from the industry to vocational training, the special show will feature an extensive programme which addresses both the acute demand in the industry for qualified specialists and the latest technological and training-related developments," summarised Wilms.

AMB Award as a new highlight in the accompanying programme

Innovative products from metal working companies will be promoted and honoured for the first time with their own Award. The new Award will be presented for outstanding new and further developments in different product categories that represent significant value-added for the industry. "The variety of the submitted innovations from the areas of precision tools and measuring technology alone shows the phenomenal innovative spirit of the companies," said jury member Markus Heseding, Managing Director of the VDMA Precision Tools Association and the VDMA Measuring and Testing Technology Association, in praising the entries. "New machining methods, more efficient production processes, alternative materials, AI – thoughts are going in all directions in order to create additional benefits for customers." According to Heseding, the presentation of the AMB Award will be one of the highlights of this year's AMB. "Award presentation ceremonies often contain inspiring stories and examples of success. On the AMB stage in the Atrium there will provide the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others and find new ideas for one's own company. The future of metal working can be experienced there!" The products of the nominated companies will be displayed throughout AMB on the "Area of AMB Award Nominees" right at the Entrance East.

Platform for young enterprises

By promoting participation in AMB with a joint stand for young innovators, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) will support young companies, and help to pave their way to a successful entry onto the market. Just like the companies in the Start-Up Area, the companies on the BMWK joint stand will be able to present their innovations on the AMB stage where the "Pitches ‘n‘ Pretzels" event will take place on 11 and 12 September 2024. During the event the applicants will present their ideas in 5-minute pitches to the trade visitors at AMB and a jury. "With their practical applications and their interactive character, the start-up pitches will be an ideal opportunity to get insights into the latest trends and technologies in the metal working industry," said Dr. Dietrich Birk, Managing Director of VDMA Baden-Württemberg, whose Industry 4.0 Alliance is organising and moderating the pitches. Birk is primarily expecting highly promising innovations in the areas of AI, sustainability, cybersecurity and digital transformation. "The start-up pitches will provide an extensive overview of future trends and developments, and will have the potential through their ideas and technologies to revolutionise the industry."

Networking opportunities for skilled workers

Safeguarding the future in the metal working industry also means passing on experiences and technical knowledge, thereby preserving them across generations. Networking events are both an effective and an informal opportunity in this respect – at AMB as well. Messe Stuttgart is therefore inviting people to attend a Meet & Greet featuring Instagram and YouTube metal cutting stars, for example BavariaCNC, cnc_sven, Uncle Phil and SubiPerformance, on 14 September on the gallery in the Oskar Lapp Halle (Hall 6). The gallery in the Oskar Lapp Halle (Hall 6) will not only become a meeting point for skilled workers, it will also be turned into an International Gallery. It will provide exhibition guests and teams of the exhibitors with a platform to forge contacts with leading associations on the international market. There will also be country-specific Happy Hours for extensive networking.
