From the lab to the facade: The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE has installed 70 photovoltaic modules on the outer facade of one of its lab buildings. The modules were developed and produced by the Institute and demonstrate the interplay of different technologies.

Inspect roofs and facades with the help of highly efficient images, even when there is strong wind and no framework: If it would be up to Norman Hallermann, civil engineer and scientist from the Bauhaus University in Weimar, carpenters and roofers would use the support of unmanned aircrafts, such as drones, more frequently in the future. DACH+HOLZ International will present the possible applications of the flying helpers and the associated simplifications for building roofs and facades in their own special exhibition from 2 to 5 February 2016 in Stuttgart.

The DEUBAUKOM 2016 has honed its profile and is now the communications platform for the construction industry's network in North Rhine-Westphalia. Systematically geared to architects, engineers, experts from the housing industry and the industrial building sector, the specialist fair offers these target groups a comprehensive overview of relevant products and services presented in thematically arranged competence centres. The DEUBAUKOM, from 13 to 16 January 2016 in the Messe Essen fairgrounds, will be supplemented by the three specialist fairs InfraTech, DCONex and acqua alta from 13 to 15 January.

In postponing its opening times by an hour (new: 10:00 – 19:00, Saturday: 10:00 – 17:00) the combined FENSTERBAU FRONTALE and HOLZ-HANDWERK trade fair is taking account of the increase in traffic at recent events. Exhibitors and visitors will thus be able to avoid the main rush-hour traffic both in the mornings and in the evenings.

A benchmarking study on the business practices of private store front and home-based businesses that sell crafts directly to the public, was recently released by Craft & Hobby Association (CHA). The purpose of the study was to explore best practices that make an independent craft retailer successful and to share the data with CHA members and industry suppliers.
