light+building 2018

•••2••• Messewelten Messe Frankfurt acquires trade fairs in Thailand Messe Frankfurt has acquired Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Fair to expand the worldwide portfolio of its Light + Building brand of trade fairs. Powered by Messe Frankfurt since their inception in 2015, the two fairs will now officially form part of the Light + Building family that totals 15 fairs world- wide. Messe Frankfurt will leverage its extensive interna- tional experience in growing trade fairs, while at the same time utilise its local organising partners’ knowledge to propel the fairs forward as ASEAN’s leading trade fairs for lighting and building technol- ogy, design and solutions. Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Fair will be held from 8 – 10 No- vember, 2018 at Bangkok International Convention & Exhibition Centre. The 2018 edition is expected to welcome over 165 exhibitors utilising some 10,000 sqm of exhibition space. The two fairs will be held concurrently with Secutech Thailand, a premier plat- form that showcases the latest innovations in secu- rity, smart homes and fire and safety products. By hosting Thailand Lighting Fair, Thailand Building Fair and Secutech Thailand under one roof, the intercon- nected lighting, building and safety industries have an unrivalled one-stop sourcing opportunity. Messe Frankfurt is present in 178 countries and hosts exhi- bitions and conferences in around 30 locations. Smart urban living and working BIM, IoT & more: Light + Building to showcase fascinating solutions for the future W hether smar t homes, smart buildings, smart liv- ing or smart cities, smartification is a never-ending process that changes all aspects of life. “Smart solutions” ensure that buildings become an integral part of the In- ternet of Things. Light + Building 2018 will be dominated by ‘smart solutions’ with the world’s lead- ing suppliers of lighting, electrical technology and house and build- ing automation showing market- ready, intelligent solutions for a smarter world. Forward-looking planning is es- sential to ensure that the technol- ogy of a smart building will func- tion in the future, too, i.e., that modern, rapidly and constantly changing building-services tech- nology can be integrated at any time during the building’s life- time. This is not possible with tra- ditional planning and construction processes. Building Information Modelling (BIM) methods, which bring together architecture and engineering, house and building- services technology and facility management in computer mod- els, are the key to future-oriented planning. The whole building with all disciplines is planned concur- rently and simulated, tested and, if necessary, corrected in digital models. There is no need for com- plex changes on the building site. Everyone involved in the planning and construction must cooperate closely when using BIM methods. Moreover, it is essential that eve- ryone involved in the construc- tion process uses 3D CAD tools employing BIM-conform data models. This information is then entered into a central database, which makes it possible to mini- mise expensive construction er- rors at an early stage. In addition to BIM, there is another subject that concerns not only the sec- tor but society as a whole: the trend to living in cities, which is forcing municipalities to achieve big energy savings without cut- ting services, despite ever-tight- er budgets. The smart city – the networked and intelligent city – is the solution for urbanisation problems. Through the use of digital technologies, cities will be- come smarter, more efficient and more sustainable. The infrastruc- ture, buildings and services must be modernised using solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), which provides a constant, rap- idly changing flow of data from sensors and devices. These data flows and their interoperability form the basis for cost reduc- tions. A city has numerous data sources, e.g., companies, schools, museums, city councils, media and associations. The secret is be- ing able to generate useful knowl- edge from this data. The IoT is penetrating all sectors and can be subdivided into many different fields. One of them is the interlinkage of devices and systems in buildings, which makes it possible to plan more efficient measures and controls for own- ers, operators and residents. Thus, smart homes (digitalisation and networking in private dwell- ings) and smart buildings (auto- mation and the central operation of technical facilities from dedi- cated buildings) are important parts of the Internet of Things. What will smart cities look like in future? Light + Building offers profound answers.
