••• 15••• Innovationen Bio-Abfälle kühlen Lebensmittel Wissenschaftler entwickeln Bio-Kälte-Anlage für Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländer E in mit Biogas angetriebenes System, das aus Abfällen Kälte für die Lebensmittellagerung er- zeugt, hat Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Indien mit Partnern umgesetzt. In Entwicklungs- und Schwellen- ländern verdirbt etwa ein Drittel aller erzeugten Lebensmittel, da es dort meist an Infrastrukturen für Transport, rechtzeitiger Ver- arbeitung oder Kühlung mangelt. Gleichzeitig stellt eine unzuläng- liche Abfallentsorgung in diesen Ländern ein hygienisches Pro- blem dar und führt zu Gesund- heitsbeeinträchtigungen der Be- völkerung. Ein Beispiel für diese Situation ist das Hafengebiet der indischen Stadt Mumbai, wo es aufgrund einer unzureichenden Kältever- sorgung zu einem erhöhten Aus- schuss bei der Fischverarbeitung kommt. Fraunhofer UMSICHT hat ein technologisches Konzept entwickelt, das sowohl das Pro- blem der Abfallentsorgung als auch das einer zuverlässigen Käl- teversorgung von Lebensmitteln löst, indem biogene Abfälle wie Überschüsse aus der Fischverar- beitung oder der Landwirtschaft zur direkten Kälteerzeugung für die Lebensmittellagerung genutzt werden. Die Bio-Kälte-Anlage be- steht aus den Hauptkomponenten Fermenter, Gasbrenner, Absorp- tionskältemaschine und Rück- kühlwerk, die zusammen mit dem Lagerraum für die Lebensmittel in zwei mobilen 40-Fuß-Containern untergebracht sind. Dadurch lässt sich das System überall und auch ohne Verbindung zum Stromnetz nutzen , bei Bedarf kann es außer- dem mit Solarpanelen und Wär- me-Kopplungsanlagen kombiniert werden. Reste als Düngemittel Die im Container enthaltene An- lage kann zwischen drei und fünf Tonnen biogene Abfälle pro Tag verarbeiten (abhängig von der Substratzusammensetzung des Abfalls). Die Überreste aus dem Fermentationsprozess lassen sich als Düngemittel weiterver- wenden. Nach dem Bau einer De- monstrationsanlage soll die Bio- Kälte-Anlage künftig vermarktet werden, hieß es.
